KTN First City Rotary Meeting

Hope to see you tomorrow IN PERSON AT THE CAPE FOX LODGE. If I were to recommend ONE MEETING during our year that you shouldn't miss, this one would be it!

Scott Habberstad, from Alaska Airlines, is our speaker, and they have all sorts of surprises and great news in store for our Rotary Club.

Today at the Chamber luncheon, they announced a $10,000 investment into our ballfields, and **just sayin** they have much more to share.

Also, we'll announce exciting news about our year's proposed Club projects, all thanks to your hard work at our Duck Race. PLUS-- we have inspiring news about our Leadership Development to announce.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, and... as always, why not bring a friend?

The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association (AMSEA) is conducting a Marine Safety Instructor Training (MSIT) class in Sitka, Alaska at the Public Safety Training Academy, 877 Sawmill Creek Road, September 20 to September 25, 2021. This is an intensive train-the-trainer course that prepares individuals to effectively teach cold-water survival procedures, the use of marine safety equipment, and vessel safety drills. Taught by experienced mariners, the MSIT is the only marine safety instructor course, specific to commercial fishing, that is nationally accepted by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Topics covered during the course include Methods of Marine Safety Instruction; Emergency Procedures; Risk Assessment; How to Conduct Effective Drills; Cold-Water Survival Skills; Man-Overboard Recovery; Firefighting; Life Rafts; Abandon-Ship Procedures; Helicopter-Rescue; Flares, MAYDAYs, and Other Emergency Signals; Personal Flotation Devices; Flooding Control; Conducting Safety Orientations; and Cross-Cultural Communication. AMSEA recommends this workshop for anyone that wants to provide cold-water survival & survival, shore-side survival, or marine safety instruction. The MSIT provides practical, hands-on experience in survival equipment use and procedures.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be prepared to teach AMSEA’s U.S. Coast Guard-accepted Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor training, pending authorization from the Coast Guard.
