Southeast Alaska's clean, cold sea is prodigiously prolific. From sculpins and sea stars in tide pools to humpback whales, orca whales and sea lions feasting in the food-rich waters of our pristine ocean.

Boaters and kayakers may seal seals and sea otters swimming, feeding and playing in coves. Visitors must remember to enjoy marine mammals from a distance as they are federally protected. We try not to disturb them as they share our near-shore waters.

Go out on a boat to the open ocean or kayak around the coast. Keep your camera close as sightings can happen quickly and you don't want to miss a thing!

Killer Whales

Killer whales, or orcas, travel in pods and can be seen throughout the summer feeding and playing.

Sea Otters

Sea otters are abundant in our waters, hang out in groups, and feed on a diet of clams and crabs.

At low tide on the beach in tide-pools, you'll see many variety of sea stars and other sea life.

Sea Lions

Stellar sea lions are a sight to behold. Males can grow to a size of 11 feet and 2500 pounds!

Humpbacks

Humpback whales are commonly seen in the spring feeding on herring during their spawn.
